Manchester band The Courteeners announced they will be following in the footsteps of iconic bands Oasis and The Stone Roses by playing a headline gig at Heaton Park on 5th June 2015. Frontman Liam Fray announced the gig through his twitter (@What_Liam_Said), sounding extremely excited, he tweeted “HEATON FUCKIN’ PARK! FRIDAY 5TH JUNE 2015. #HOMECOMING.”
The band have recently just finished a 19 date UK tour, ending in Liverpools’ Echo arena. Fray teased the idea of a big homecoming gig whilst on stage in Liverpool, saying “If we did a gig in Manchester would anyone come?.” Tickets went on sale yesterday, the 28th November at 9am, and all 20,000 tickets were sold by 9.49, something Liam seemed to be extremely overwhelmed by, taking to twitter to simply tweet “FUCK ME.” and “INSANE.”
Fans of the band have been asking for a Manchester gig after there was no Manchester date on the recent UK tour. Heaton park will be the first gig since they headlined two dates at Castlefield bowl last July, which has been described by some as ‘Magical’ and a ‘Real victory’ (See: http://louderthanwar.com/the-courteeners-castlefield-live-review/.) Taking into consideration the extremely positive reviews on the bands latest album ‘Concrete Love’ (released August 18th 2014), and the almost infamous rowdy Manchester gigs, this is certainly one to look out for.
The Courteeners will play Heaton Park on the 5th June 2015. Tickets are now sold out.
