It’s been over 10 years since The Libertines have released any new music, so to say fans were in anticipation for the bands latest track would be an understatement. However, fear not, the long wait is finally over as the band have revealed their new song ‘Gunga Din’, along with full length music video.
In typical Libertines fashion the ska-influenced single is full of guitar crashes and fast paced melodies, complimented by both Pete and Carls ingenious lyrics. The magical thing about The Libs, I believe, is that although their songs are often full of negative one liners, such as “Getting sick and tired of feeling sick and tired again”, the tracks never leave you feeling down. If anything, they pick you up and leave you dancing around your living room like a 14 year old girl to One Direction (only me?).
The track has divided fans, with some praising the comeback, and others being ‘underwhelmed’ with the new single. However, with such anticipation riding on the new track the band were never going to please everyone, and after listening to the track on repeat since the release I think the band have more than exceeded my expectations.
The bands new album ‘Anthems For Doomed Youth’ is due for release 4th September, and if the new track is anything to go by I think its definitely one to watch out for. Jesus, more anticipation, like thats what we needed!
